Following the screening of ‘Ask the Wind’, Sam will introduce his wider practice in film, illustration, and graphic novels. We will screen ‘Silence Is Full of the Unspoken’, 2025, 10 mins (15) and learn more about his ‘Like Dust’ interactive graphic novel.
About Silence Is Full of the Unspoken
Ava (38), an Iranian woman living in the Netherlands, is trapped in a sham marriage born from her father’s guilt and silence. When she needs a signature for her Iranian passport from either her father or her husband, she is forced into a quiet confrontation with a past that was never spoken. Set largely inside a car, the film explores silence as an inherited system — and the moment a woman must decide whether to submit to it or break free.
About Like Dust
Like Dust is an interactive Graphic novel that tells Sam’s story whilst symbolising much more. Every day, thousands of young people flee from one country and travel to another country full of hope and expectations. This journey is always accompanied by uncertainty and danger. You never know who you can trust and where you might end up. With the Graphic novel ‘Like Dust’, Sam wanted to show that there is a wider story behind every refugee. It’s always easy to dismiss people as fortune seekers or just numbers, but every individual who leaves their home goes through some kind of identity transformation.
