About the site and commissions launch

Bringing together newly unveiled artworks and a live collaborative performance, the afternoon marks a significant moment as Wysing expands their artistic programme and commitment to environmental initiatives and accessibility. The launch introduces new work by Tai Shani, Appau Jnr Boakye-Yiadom, Hannan Jones and Shamica Ruddock, each responding to Wysing’s building and landscapes.

A new permanent sculpture by Tai Shani, Symphonic Flame, will be unveiled in Wysing’s newly refurbished reception. Drawing on a recurring motif in Shani’s practice, the sculpture takes the form of a cartoon-like candle: a playful, powerful symbol of memory, hope and healing.

Appau Jnr Boakye-Yiadom will be transforming the facade of Wysing’s Studio block with a work responding to the site using domestic materials to visualise sound.

2025-26 Residency Artists Hannan Jones and Shamica Ruddock will invite collaborators to activate their recent commission, Strike | the mark feeds the score | surface as notation, for its return to Wysing, continuing the duo’s sonic reflections on histories entangled across borders and time.

New developments to Wysing’s rural site have transformed it into an environment that nurtures both artistic practice and the living landscape through green energy, biodiversity initiatives, and improved access. This includes: a new rainwater garden, the installation of renewable energy systems, biodiverse planting and woodland management, and a new fully accessible live / work studio for visiting disabled artists.

These updates mark meaningful progress in Wysing’s mission to create open, inclusive spaces where artists, visitors, and the surrounding wildlife can flourish.

Wysing Arts Centre’s capital project has been generously supported by Arts Council England, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, South Cambridgeshire District Council, Cambridgeshire County Council, Garfield Weston Foundation, and Thalia WB.
