Open positions

revolution: from the Middle English revolucion, Late Latin revolūtiōn – (stem of revolūtiō) ‘a turn around’, equivalent to revolūt(us). r

Revolution and revolt have a shared origin, both ultimately going back to the latin revolver “to revolve, roll back.” … at virtually the same time, the word developed a sharply different meaning, namely, ”a sudden radical, or complete change,” apparently from the idea of reversal of direction implicit in the latin verb.

Join us in our travel writing revolution.

At Panorama: The Journal of Travel, Place, and Nature, we are interested in creating a revolt against the definitions of not just what travel writing is, but what travel is. If you’d like to join us, we offer the opportunity to work with some of the most gifted editors in the world, and taking part in Panorama means you are committing to something important. We work together as a collective, and are interested in your ideas, as well as your support.

Please apply to the editor email directly after the position. The best way to discern your suitability is to is to visit our Mission page and explore our archive, as well as familiarise yourself with our Masthead.

All positions work in tandem, and we spread out the work among many, creating three issues per year. The print edition is run differently, with a core team. Our team lives around the world, and works remotely. Most Assistant Editors are chosen by their lead editors, and other positions are chosen by the Director and advisory senior editorial team. Please allow 30 days for a response.

We are especially open to applicants with a global perspective, and invite those who are outside of traditional opportunities to apply. We regret that the roles are not remunerated, as we are all volunteers and Panorama is self-funded. However, we do provide opportunities such as invitations for panels, conferences, and publishing.

Please send a cover letter which includes your location, relevant information about your background and point of view on travel literature, social media and website links, as well as how you feel you could work with/add to the Panorama mission. Attach a resume in a Word Doc with relevant experience. [No PDFs]. While we are travel literature oriented, we do not require our team to be, as we understand how limited the genre has been in the past.

Due to our strong commitment to diversity, we especially encourage diverse candidates and those from areas of the world without ready access to such opportunities.

Positions are removed from our site as they are filled.
