  • IF: WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH … POWER? 5 MAY 2026

West Court, Jesus College 22 Jesus Lane, Cambridge, United Kingdom

Join Dr Eliane Glaser, author, BBC producer and Visiting Fellow at Jesus, and Prof Clare Chambers to explore where and how power is exerted today – both overtly and covertly, in public and in private – and why the term seems to have fallen out of fashion at a time when we need it more than ever. They will be joined by award-winning novelist Joanna Kavenna and author and broadcaster Phil Tinline. The event will be open to all.

  • IF: THE CHANGING CHARACTER OF WAR AND PEACEMAKING 6 MAY 2026

West Court, Jesus College 22 Jesus Lane, Cambridge, United Kingdom

Lord John Alderdice will draw on his experience as a key negotiator in the 1998 Good Friday Agreement to examine the shifting nature of global conflict and peacemaking within today's rapidly changing geopolitical landscape. As ongoing global conflicts threaten to marginalise the United Nations and the rules-based international order, peacemaking is also being forced to adapt to a new situation in which leaders are less often those who seek to resolve conflicts than those who conduct them. Lord Alderdice will bring his experience of politics, parliament and peacebuilding to an analysis of the problem and some ideas of what to do about it.
