Exercise: Read the excerpt from the introduction to Minal Hajratwala’s memoir above about her family’s movement across the globe. In travel writing, we expect the narrator to be a reliable guide; in travel memoir, we also expect her to be a character who changes as a result of the journey. What’s at stake for Hajratwala personally in this investigation? How does she connect her pending journey to that of her family’s 5-continent diaspora? How do you imagine she may be transformed?
