Following the great success of our Japanese arts programme at Jesus College—incorporating film, music, and performance—we now turn our attention to Spain, Estonia, Cyprus, and Denmark. On the 6th July, we will screen three animated short films from across Europe, followed by a main feature, in collaboration with Jesus College, Film@Jesus, the EU National Institutes for Culture, the Cyprus High Commission, Embassy of Estonia, and Cultura Instituto Cervantes in London, as well as creative studio Uniko and Bulldog film distribution. The event will be held in the Frankopan Hall, Jesus College. Tickets are available below.
SATURDAY 6 JULY 5.30PM
ANIMATED SHORTS
LOOP 2021, 8 mins (PG) Spain
Directed by: Pablo Polledri
This animation presents a mesmerising circuit of never-ending automation and activity, all kept working like clockwork by an all seeing eye, the film asks us to question the purpose of surveillance in our lives, and the ways in which we contribute to its continuing presence.
EEVA 2022, 16 mins (15) Estonia
Directed by: Morten Tšinakov, Lucija Mrzljak
A grieving wife turns reflects on the loss of her husband and the series of events that led to his untimely death in this beautifully realised silent animation.
THE TORNADO OUTSIDE 2023, 8 mins (U) Cyprus
Directed by: Maria Tomazou
Have you ever wondered what’s inside a tornado? Maria Tomazou may well have the answer in this poetic stop motion animation.
SATURDAY 6 JULY 6.15PM
MAIN FEATURE
ROSE 2024, 105 mins (PG) Denmark
Directed by: Niels Arden Oplev
Set over the course of one week, ROSE is the story of two sisters, Inger and Ellen, and how their relationship is challenged on a highly anticipated coach trip to Paris. When Inger announces her struggles with mental health to the group, the sisters are faced with pity from some and downright discrimination from others. On arrival in Paris, it soon becomes clear that Inger has a hidden agenda concerning a figure from her past, ultimately involving the entire group in her hunt for answers. ROSE is a film about love and care for each other, in spite of our differences, as much as it is a film about not judging a book by its cover.
